Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about valuing and selling your car in the UK

How much is my car worth?
Your car's value depends on its make, model, age, mileage, condition and service history. moValue gives you three estimates: private sale value (the most you could list it for), part-exchange value (what a dealer would offer as a trade-in), and quick sale value (what instant buyers like Motorway or WBAC would pay). Enter your reg to get a free, instant valuation.
Is the valuation really free?
Yes, 100%. moValue is completely free to use with no obligations. We compare live UK market data to give you realistic estimates for all three sale routes: private sale, part-exchange and quick sale.
Do I need an MOT to sell my car?
You can sell a car without an MOT, but it cannot legally be driven on public roads (except to a pre-booked MOT test). Cars without MOT typically sell for less. We recommend getting your MOT done before selling. A clean MOT can add hundreds to your sale price.
Can I sell my car without the V5C logbook?
Technically yes, but it's much harder and you'll likely get less money. Most buyers, especially dealers and instant-buy services, require the V5C. If you've lost yours, you can apply for a replacement from DVLA (form V62) for £25.
Private sale vs part-exchange vs quick sale: what's best?
It depends on your priorities. Private sale gives you the best price but takes 2 to 6 weeks and requires managing viewings. Part-exchange is convenient if you're buying another car from a dealer. Quick sale services collect from your door and pay within days, but at a lower price. moValue shows you all three values so you can decide.
What makes moValue different from other valuation tools?
moValue is the only UK tool that shows private sale, part-exchange AND quick sale values in one place, plus lets you compare up to 4 cars side-by-side. We also provide a full vehicle report including MOT history, tax status, mileage analytics, running costs and AI-powered insights, all for free.
